Hi, I’m Dominique—a lifelong creative spirit rediscovering the joy of making art.
In my younger years, I explored every artistic avenue I could find: music, dance, theatre, drawing, painting, sculpting, writing, and photography. As a teenager, I dreamed of becoming a professional artist. But, as life often does, it led me down a different path. For many years, art quietly waited in the wings while I focused on other responsibilities.
Then in 2019, something shifted. A creeping sense of midlife uncertainty made me feel lost and disconnected. I found myself yearning for the creative spark I once had. Unsure where to begin, I picked up an art book filled with prompts and exercises across different mediums. I worked through some of it with mild curiosity—until I reached the watercolour section.
And that’s when everything changed.
I fell in love with watercolour. The way it dances across the page, unpredictable and fluid, captivated me. I dove into online tutorials, watched hours of videos, and experimented with techniques. Even when I’m the one painting, the final result always surprises me—and that magic never gets old.
As I explored further, I discovered urban sketching and portrait painting. Portraits have always fascinated me, though I used to find them intimidating. Now, I’m leaning into that challenge, developing my skills and embracing the learning process.
Whether I’m sketching a city street or painting a face, art helps me reconnect—with myself, with the moment, and with the joy of creating. It’s my way of stepping out of my head and into something meaningful.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my artwork as much as I’ve enjoyed bringing it to life.
