Building a Successful Art Career: My Plan

A snapshot of my studio/office where I've displayed some of my artwork.

Hello friends and fellow creatives,

I’m Dominique, and I’m on a mission to turn my passion for art into a sustainable career. I have five YouTube videos already live. This includes four sketchbook tours and one time-lapse process video. I’ve taken the first steps toward building a creative business. Now, I’m ready to share my plan to grow this into something that not only fuels my soul but also supports me financially.

The Goal

By August 2026, I aim to be generating a regular income from my artist career. This income will come from multiple steams, allowing me to stay creatively independent and aligned with my values.

My Monetization Strategy

Here’s how I plan to reach that goal:

1. YouTube Art Channel Growth

I’ll continue posting weekly videos that include:

  • Sketchbook tours
  • Time-lapse process videos
  • Art tutorials
  • Behind-the-scenes vlogs

Once I reach the eligibility threshold, I’ll activate YouTube monetization through AdSense and start earning from views.

2. Selling Digital Art Products

I’ll create and sell a variety of digital art products. Those may include:

  • Printable wall art
  • eBooks and guides for artists
  • Art tutorials and templates

I’m still researching what, where, and how to do this. So stay tuned…

3. Art Commissions and Freelance Services

I’ll offer custom artwork and creative services through my website, with clear pricing and a streamlined request process. This will probably include freelance illustration and portrait commissions, among other things.

4. Fan Support via Patreon or Ko-fi

I’ll probably launch a Patreon for artists. Supporters can contribute monthly to gain exclusive content. They will also have early access and get behind-the-scenes updates. Alternatively, I might consider a Ko-fi page.

5. Affiliate Marketing for Art Supplies

I’ll recommend tools and supplies I genuinely use and love, earning a small commission when others buy through my links. This includes affiliate links programs for artists, especially those focused on ethical and sustainable materials.

My Weekly Creative Schedule

Balancing a full-time job and mental health means I have to design a manageable weekly routine that includes:

  • YouTube content creation
  • Other social media posts
  • Website/blog maintenance
  • email newsletter for art fans

I’ve built in flexibility and rest days to support my well-being while staying consistent.

Why I’m Sharing This

I believe in transparency and community. Sharing this plan should help me stay accountable, and I hope it inspires others who are navigating similar paths. I know that I’ve been inspired by other artists who have been generous enough to share their journey.

Thank you for being part of my journey. If you’d like to follow along, subscribe to my YouTube channel and my website. Keep an eye out for my email list. Join any other social media profiles I may create later on.

This is just the beginning — thanks for being part of it!
